Bill & Shirley Howes
Stoneymoor Pedigree Tamworths
Where we started and where we are now...

Bill Howes left school at 15 and did a three year farm apprenticeship. Following this he did 12 months at Warwickshire Farm Institute and gained a NCA.
Bill continued to work in agriculture for most of his life as did his wife Shirley.
Bill and Shirley now live on a 3-acre smallholding in semi-rural Warwickshire where they breed pedigree Tamworth pigs.
Where we started
The Howes’ had kept commercial pigs in the past but the Stoneymoor Pedigree Tamworth herd was formed in 1993 with two weaner gilts from the famous Berkswell Herd, which is the oldest herd in the country. Together with pigs from the well-known Shutevale and Westham herds, this made a strong foundation on which to build the Stoneymoor Herd.

In 2006, we owned the first Pedigree Tamworth to qualify for “Pig of the Year” in the 26 years the competition had been running. He was Stoneymoor Royal Standard 7 shown opposite.
Where we are now
Currently we have 5 sows, 1 stock boar and some followers varying in age from weaners (8 weeks) to in-pig gilts and young boars. Some of these are FOR SALE. We keep our herd small as we have limited space.
